Leather Leather
Since the Boston Ramrod caters to the Machine Crowd and boys and their "fag hags" are the norm, I'll take the Providence Eagle any day.
Great BAR with HOT MEN, Great Staff and HOTTER owner!!!
Club Body Center just around the corner and Upstairs from Providence Eagle offers a Bear Night every 2nd Friday of the month. All Bears, Otters and Cubs recieve a discount upon entering CBC on this theme night. So have a few drinks at this AWESOME Leather Bar then head upstairs for some fun!
Decent dive bar, can be fun, but many drawbacks
The GOOD: The bartenders are friendly, the space looks pretty manly, leather and rubber groups occasionally have club nights there, reasonable assortment of beers, wines, and liquors, seldom see any women.
The BAD: Baseball on TV distracts everyone and makes them LOUD, monster-sized drinks (6 ounce serving of whiskey!) attracts hardcore drinkers aiming to get shit-faced, cover charge on Friday and Saturday but no theme or entertainment to justify it, no door control to keep out drunks, creeps, and psychotics.
The VERDICT: It's a crap shoot. Give the Eagle a try, but be prepared to fight the urge to drown a drunken, touchy-feely fruit-loop in the toilet.
Pretty good for an old-school men's bar
The new incarnation of the Eagle is pretty good. It feels like it's 1983 again but in a good way, installing a cell phone jammer would be better still. Little bit macho bar, little bit leather bar, little bit neighborhood bar, they'd do well to have a dress code on busy nights to keep the metrosexuals out. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Drink pours are insanely generous but the bartenders all vary on quantity and price for the exact same liquor. My well whiskeys were 5 ounces for $5.75, 4 ounces for $7.00, 6 ounces for $5.00, 4 ounces for $7.50... Cover charge $5 on Friday and Saturday nights, if the owner enforced a standard pour and consistent prices he'd make enough extra profit to eliminate the cover charge (do the math). Impressive DJ booth and sound system for such a small dance floor that nobody dances on. The Eagle is a good bet to become your "go to" bar.
Eagle????
When i was there it was more like a Flamingo, i hope it gets better, but i wont know, cause i wont go back. When i was there the Queens ruled, should be called Famingo, ive been to an Eagle where ever i found them all over the country, this one was a flamingo in an Eagles feathers!
nice mix
nice mix of people, totally unpretentious. Mike seems like a great bartender (and fun guy) and who doesnt love porn on the TVs, lol.
eagle is awesome and new bath rooms!!!
i love the new look and fancy bathrooms.
Love the Eagle...
Providence Eagle was the first gay bar I had ever gone to (years ago). The staff and clientele were extremely friendly and it kept me going there for years. I've since moved away, but anytime I'm in town, the Eagle is one of my stops. In my opinion, it's the best bar in the city. Whether it's crammed busy on a saturday night or a slow "happy hour" after work, I always have a good time!
Halloween coming out
I am a cross dresser in the closet. I buy my wigs, stockings, shoes, boots, and some costumes at a small shop in Providence called 'Bruna Costumes'. She is the first person that I confided in. She has incouraged me to come out on Halloween. She said that this is a test to encourage you to go out during the year. At Halloween no one will notice. So that's what I did. I felt very comfortabe there and quite honesly, I did not feel that anyone was looking at me. They probably weren't. I guess I fit in.
If they have a Mardi Gras or St. Pat's party, I will dress up in costume and go back. Very nice place, nice people.
LeatherMen, Bears and Hot Bartenders - WOOF!
A Grrrreat Place to have a good drink, meet new men among the generally friendly weekend crowd and indulge in a bit of erotic activity on the weekend in the very dark "back wall" area. Music a bit loud and dancers on the small floor are usually few, but you can still have a conversation without shouting. Hot, often Leather/Bear oriented crowd - 30's-50's DVD's playing on several screens . Friendly bartenders who, on weekend often strip down to their jocks - and they pour a good drink too! All in all - a must stop place whenever I'm fortunate enough to be in this truly interesting arts-friendly city - my favorite on the East Coast.
